G7 Roundtable in Tokyo
Date 2023.06.21
For the third time, the data protection authorities of the G7 countries have met for discussions dealing in particular with the approximation of international data protection standards.
The data protection commissioners and privacy authorities of the G7 countries met in Tokyo from 19 to 21 June. It was the third meeting of the so-called G7 roundtable under this year’s chairmanship of the Japanese Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC). The participants continue their discussions on the approximation of international data protection standards. These discussions were started last year in Bonn. The G7 now intends to develop concrete proposals for the principle of a Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT).
In addition, the data protection commissioners and privacy authorities published a joint statement on generative artificial intelligence in which they stress that the existing data protection law also applies fully to new technological developments and concrete applications in this area.
